A kit of a Japanese sedan with a turbocharged inline six in 1:24 scale. The classic automotive line of the Tamiya brand, plastic parts, a smooth build.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Skyline in the GT-ES rendition was among the cars with which the domestic maker answered stricter emissions regulations without losing power. The turbocharged inline six put as much pull into the squarely cut body of a sedan as had until then belonged only to sharper coupes. It is exactly that combination of austere shape and hidden power which keeps this car in favor to this day.
The 1:24 scale is the most widespread for passenger cars and means a finished model about a hand and a half long. The parts are injection-molded from polystyrene, the body makes up one main molding and the rest is divided into groups by chassis, interior and glazing. Cement for plastic and paints are needed for the build, because this is a classic kit, not a click-fit model.
With square bodies it is an even coat of varnish that decides the result, because flat surfaces reveal every unevenness. It therefore pays to give time to sanding and to the primer. Chrome strips and window frames can be accentuated with a fine brush, or with a decal, which with cars of this generation makes a great difference.
Besides nippers and cement, masking tape for the windows, fine abrasive and a clear coat for finishing are useful. The exact part count and the breakdown of the contents are stated by the manufacturer on the box.
Japanese sedans of the turn of the 1970s and 1980s today fill the gap between historic machinery and modern cars. In a display case they read less conspicuously than racing specials, but all the more will they please the connoisseur who knows what was hidden under the square sheet metal.
