Cut masking shapes for the glazing and the wheels for the 1:48 kit of the last piston fighter of the Royal Navy.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Sea Fury was the culmination of a development that began with the Typhoon and continued with the Tempest: a lighter airframe, a laminar-flow wing and an eighteen-cylinder radial with a five-blade propeller. Just when it seemed that piston fighters had served their time, Korea came and the machines from the decks of escort carriers began flying strikes against ground targets. In August 1952 one of them got into a fight with jet fighters and shot one of them down; in the history of air combat this case has remained an exception that modelers still like to argue over in bar-room debates.
The set deals with the most tiresome part of the build: cutting the masking for the rounded teardrop canopy and for the wheel hubs. The masks are die-cut to the shape of particular parts, so there is no measuring, trying and trimming of tape directly on the model, where a knife has nowhere to get out of the way.
Before applying rid the clear parts of fingerprints and grease; washing them in lukewarm water with detergent and letting them dry is ideal. Press the mask down at the corner of a frame and only then press it down along its length, otherwise an air pocket will stay under the edge and paint will run beneath it.
It also pays to spray at right angles to the surface and in thin coats. A heavy application builds up into a ridge under the edge of the masking, which is visible against the light once the canopy is uncovered and then has to be sanded out exactly where the clear part is most vulnerable.
