A set of pre-cut self-adhesive masks for covering the canopy glazing of a model of the reconnaissance Meteor in 1:48 scale. The masks come in a double-sided version, that is, ready for both the outside and the inside of the hood. That keeps the frame crisp and clean even when seen from inside the cockpit, which shows at once on a model with a well appointed interior. Self-adhesive means the mask is simply peeled off the carrier film and set on the part; there is no need to cut it out or to stick it down with a liquid product. It is not a kit or a finished model but an accessory for the painting stage.
The Gloster Meteor was the first British jet fighter to enter service. The FR.9 version came about as a reconnaissance adaptation derived from the fighter series with a reworked nose for photographic equipment; it served in the postwar period with the Royal Air Force and with a number of foreign users. The Meteor canopy has a distinctive teardrop hood with divided frames and a windscreen, so accurate masking shows very strongly in the final impression.
Wash and degrease the glazing first, or the mask will not seat and paint will creep underneath. Move the mask with tweezers, line it up dry against the frame and only then press it down; run a toothpick or a soft stick around the edges once more so that no gap is left on the edge. Before the color coat it pays to lay a very thin covering coat in the color of the frame, so that any creep is hidden and the main coat already has a clean edge. Spray several thin coats rather than one heavy one and remove the mask shortly after it has dried.
The mask set is an accessory for painting a model. The model, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
