New Ware 1:48 MiG-21F-13 — EXPERT level kabuki masking stencils (for Eduard kits)

A set of precut self-adhesive stencils of kabuki paper (Japanese washi paper with a delicate adhesive) intended for the MiG-21F-13 model in 1:48 scale from Eduard. It is not a kit — it is an accessory for a model you have to buy separately. The set serves to cover the areas that should stay clean or receive a different color while spraying.

What the EXPERT level adds

New Ware offers its masks in levels of differing extent. The basic variants typically cover only the outer outline of the glazing, or the wheels as well. EXPERT is the most complete level — according to the manufacturer's data it includes the canopy with its frames and masks for the inner side of the glazing, then the other transparent parts, the wheels and masks for details. The inner masks are the key where you want to paint the canopy frames in the interior color from the inside as well — without them it is done by hand with a brush and the result tends to be uneven.

Use

• lift the masks out with tweezers or a pointed scalpel straight from the carrier sheet
• degrease the surface of the part beforehand and rid it of dust; press the edges of the mask down with a toothpick or a wooden stick
• spray in thin coats and rather perpendicular to the edge of the mask — that limits paint bleeding under it
• take the mask off soon after the paint has dried, slowly and at a sharp angle back over the surface
• kabuki paper holds well but has a low tack — once removed it leaves no adhesive residue and does not pull the finish away

Who the set is for

For modelers who build the Eduard MiG-21F-13 in 1:48 and want sharp, clean boundaries on the glazing, the wheels and small details without laboriously cutting masking tape. It saves a great deal of time and markedly raises the level of the final finish.

This is an accessory for a model, not the model itself. The kit, paints and glue are not included in the package.
