A sturdy joint one and seven tenths of a millimeter across, cast complete with a washer. A dimension for the large car and tractor scales, where bolts count among the main shape elements, not among the small details.
Responsibility details are not available.
With large heads it holds that the eye reveals an irregularity sooner than a wrong dimension. Before you reach for the first piece, trace with a soft pencil the line the joints are to follow and lay the gaps out with dividers or a strip of paper with marked divisions. A paper strip is more convenient than a ruler: it can be laid even on a curved surface and the points on it stay where they are meant to be.
In 1:16 scale the stated value gives a bolt roughly twenty-seven millimeters across, which corresponds to an axle anchorage or the mounting of towing gear. In 1:12 it is a twenty millimeter joint, and in a yet larger scale a fourteen millimeter one, that is a size you know from ordinary tools. For 1:35 this grade is already too coarse; there it would be a head approaching six centimeters.
On one piece you can also try out how deep the head sinks into paint that has already been sprayed. With the larger dimensions a reversed procedure pays off: spray the base, glue the joints on and only then paint them over with a brush. The head stays crisp and does not disappear under a third coat of varnish, as commonly happens with overall spraying.
