Artwox Model wooden deck for the Japanese battleship Mutsu in 1:700 scale is an accessory for a plastic kit: a self-adhesive veneer with pre-printed plank laying.
Responsibility details are not available.
An accessory for a plastic kit, not a model on its own. The thin wooden veneer carries pre-printed deck planking and has a self-adhesive backing, so it goes straight onto the plastic deck of the base model. Wood brings not only the grain but also a slightly uneven tone, which looks truer than a single flat spray coat.
The veneer is supplied in a natural light tone and most modelers leave it just as it is. If you want to darken the deck, reach for a stain or for an oil paint thinned with mineral spirits, and try the shade on an offcut first, because wood soaks up quickly and there is no going back. Apply it thin and rather twice over. Use water-thinned products with care, as the veneer may swell after them and lift at the corners. Choose a matte or semi-gloss sealing varnish; gloss on a deck looks artificial.
The pre-printed seams between the planks can be brought out with a very thin dark wash that runs into the lines by capillary action. Put a drop in one place and let it run; do not drag the brush across the area. Wipe the excess off with a cloth in the direction of the planks, never across them. Restraint is the key: the aim is to suggest the seams, not to turn the deck into a grid. A light dry brush in a paler shade over the most heavily used places comes in handy at the end.
This is an accessory, not a kit. The base model, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
