An injection-molded plastic kit of the Japanese battleship Yamato in 1:700 scale from Tamiya, part of the proven Waterline series. The model captures the ship in her final form and offers faithfully rendered main and secondary turrets and a generous anti-aircraft armament; according to the manufacturer the box contains parts for rangefinders, radars and cranes for a detailed finish.
The Yamato was the lead ship of the class of the same name and, together with her sister Musashi, the largest and heaviest battleship ever built. The Imperial Japanese Navy completed her at the end of 1941 as a counterweight to the more numerous American fleet. She carried nine 46 cm guns in triple turrets, the largest ever mounted on a warship. In April 1945 she was sunk by American carrier aircraft during a suicidal sortie toward Okinawa.
It is a waterline model, that is a hull down to the waterline; it stands on a flat surface or on a board with an imitation of the sea. Use liquid cement for plastic and work in subassemblies. Apply a primer before painting and put the paints on with an airbrush; it is practical to paint the small armament and the gun turrets before gluing. The deck and the superstructure come alive with discreet highlighting of the details and light naval weathering, and the build can be completed with optional photo-etched railings.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
