An injection-molded plastic kit of a modern landing and transport ship of the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force, part of the popular Waterline series (a model without the underwater part of the hull). The set from Tamiya holds instructions and decals, allows the stern loading ramp to be built either raised or lowered, and adds a hovercraft and helicopters. Assembly is undemanding and suits less experienced builders too.
When she entered service in 1998, Ohsumi was the largest transport ship of the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force. A multipurpose landing ship with extensive cargo decks, she can carry tanks and support vehicles, works with air-cushion craft at the stern and operates helicopters from her deck. With her continuous flight strip she looks more like a small carrier.
A Waterline series model looks its best either on a water surface made of modeling resin or on a stand. Paint the hull and the superstructure with an airbrush, set the deck apart in a different tone and bring out the details with washes. The stern ramp can be left lowered to reveal the interior of the cargo deck.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
