This photo-etched set from the Czech manufacturer Eduard holds fine ship railings matching Royal Navy practice for models in 1:700 scale. It is not a model or a kit, but an accessory that replaces heavy plastic railings with thin metal parts and so markedly raises the realism of the decks and the superstructure.
Railings are among the most conspicuous details of a ship model, yet the plastic version is usually far too thick and untrue. Photo-etched railings, by contrast, are very thin and fine, and follow exactly the number of cables and the typical pattern of Royal Navy ships. The set is usually usable across several British vessels in that scale.
Separate the strips of railing with a sharp knife and shape and bend them with tweezers to follow the outline of the deck. Use super glue (cyanoacrylate) in short sections. Degrease the metal and spray it with primer before painting.
This is an add-on photo-etched set, not a standalone model. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package.
