S-3B Viking 1:700 - Trumpeter (aircraft set)

A plastic set of small deck aircraft Lockheed S-3B Viking in 1:700 scale from the brand Trumpeter. It is not one large model but a set of several miniature aircraft molded in clear plastic, intended to fill the deck of a model of an American aircraft carrier. The parts carry a finely engraved surface texture and a decal sheet is included; on a number of the pieces the wings can be built spread or folded.

The real subject

The Lockheed S-3 Viking was a carrier aircraft of the US Navy that entered service in the middle of the 1970s. Originally it served for anti-submarine work, later it moved on to long-range reconnaissance and to fighting surface targets. Characteristic were its high-set straight wings and a pair of jet engines in nacelles beneath them.

Building and painting tips

Separate the small parts carefully from the sprue and clean them up. Glue them with thin modeling cement and place the smaller items with tweezers. After spraying the base, paint the aircraft with an airbrush in gray naval shades and pick out the details with a fine wash. The set is a beautiful addition to the deck and the hangar of an aircraft carrier model.
