Self-adhesive masks from Artwox Model for spraying the deck of a model of the American aircraft carrier USS Lexington CV-2. The sheet is cut to the outline of the deck surfaces, so the edge of the wooden planking comes out sharp without tracing it by hand with tape. The set is cut for the Meng PS-002 kit.
An aircraft carrier differs from a battleship in that here the deck is the main visible surface and it runs almost the whole length of the model. That has two consequences. First, it pays to spray in stages and lay the mask down in sections so that the long sheet does not stick down crooked right at the start. Second, every unevenness in the spray shows up immediately on a large surface, so lower pressure, thinner coats and more passes are better than one heavy coat.
Degrease the plastic before gluing and check that there is no dust on the surface. Lay the mask from one end and press it down as you go, not all at once. Push the edges around the elevators and the centerline down with a toothpick. Pull the masks off at a shallow angle while the paint is freshly dry. Finally, unify the whole deck with a matte varnish, which at the same time prepares the surface for a light wash in the seams.
This is an accessory for a plastic kit, not a standalone model. The kit and paints are not included in the package.
