It is not injection-molded plastic but a printed kit that has to be cleaned, freed of its supports and bonded with super glue before building. Printed parts tend to be more fragile and finer than plastic moldings, so working with them is better suited to more experienced modelers. Searchlights with a reflector 150 cm across were among the most powerful means of ground air defense in the Second World War. They served to light up a target at night and hold it there so that the crews of the anti-aircraft guns could be directed onto it. They worked together with their own electric power source and with equipment for finding the bearing of the target, and they were usually deployed in groups around protected sites. The large reflector and the massive mount make them a rewarding and easily recognized element of a diorama.
First wash the parts in lukewarm water with a drop of dish soap to remove production residue and let them dry thoroughly. Cut the supports off with a sharp knife or a fine saw, never snap them off. Sand wet and with respiratory protection. The parts are bonded with super glue; ordinary plastic cement does not work on printed material. Apply a thin filler primer before painting to even out the surface and reveal any print marks. The reflecting face looks best in a polished metallic color, while the body of the searchlight takes a light dusting of pigment so that the model blends into the ground of the position.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
