A masking set for the glazing of a model of the Skyraider in 1:72 scale. The masks are stuck onto the clear part, the model is sprayed and once it has dried they are taken off. The result is a straight, sharply bounded frame of the cabin - something that in this scale practically cannot be managed with a brush by hand.
The Douglas Skyraider was a single-seat attack aircraft with a piston engine, which stayed in service long after jet machines took the other roles over. It held on thanks to what jet aircraft could not do: long endurance over the target area and a large load on external stores. The A-1H and A-1J versions are single-seat machines with a sliding canopy over the cabin.
Be prepared for it: in 1:72 the masks are really small and the frame of the cabin is only a few tenths of a millimeter wide. Without sharp tweezers the set cannot be used sensibly, and having good light and a magnifier at hand is not an exaggerated precaution. The most frequent mistake is shifting a mask while laying it on - as soon as a mask touches the surface and adheres, taking it off and sticking it on again means the risk that it will crease. Lay it straight into place, therefore, and only then press it down. After sticking it on, go over the edges with a toothpick, above all where the glazing runs into a curve. Spray in thin coats and take the masks off shortly after the paint has dried.
