The real subject

Pak 36(t) is the German designation of a 4.7 cm antitank gun of Czechoslovak origin. The letter in brackets in German designations means captured equipment and refers to the country of origin. The gun was used both on a wheeled carriage and built onto the chassis of light tracked vehicles. Its rounds are long and slender, so even in a small scale it is clear that they do not belong to a howitzer but to an antitank weapon.

What the set contains

This is an accessory set of ammunition in 1:72 scale. It comes into its own in the open fighting compartment of a vehicle, with the crew of a towed gun, or laid out loose in a diorama, where a couple of cartridge cases by the wheel of the carriage say more about a fight that has just taken place than a new coat of paint would. The number of pieces, and whether the set also contains boxes or cartridge cases, are given in the manufacturer's instructions and on the packaging.

Building and painting tips

• Cut the excess material away with a sharp blade a little way from the part and sand the surface back.
• The glue suited to the material used is given in the manufacturer's instructions; small parts hold well with cyanoacrylate glue.
• Wash and degrease the parts before painting; poor adhesion shows immediately on small parts.
• Set the cartridge case and the shell apart in color; on a real round the transition is sharp.
• Scatter spent cases irregularly, in little groups rather than in a row.
• Paint small parts mounted on a stick; they are not held in the hand.
