The set belongs to the animal sub-range Dynamo-Models carries under the designation Animals Serie. It is a diorama accessory for 1:72 scale, usable in 1:76 as well. The subject is a serious one and it is used in a scene where the view is meant to capture a situation after a movement or after a hit, not the action itself.
The horse remained the basic means of transport of most armies until the end of the Second World War. It pulled the artillery, supply wagons and field kitchens, and in numbers it exceeded motor vehicles many times over. With that went high losses, which the photographs and war diaries of the period in no way concealed. In building a diorama a dead animal is therefore an element that anchors a scene historically: it recalls that alongside tracks and engines the war was fought mainly on foot and with draft animals. It is used sparingly, usually as the only such element on a base, so that the scene does not slide into self-indulgence.
The painting follows the usual procedure for animals: a thin undercoat, the main tone of the coat and volume created by a thinned dark shade. With this subject it also helps to lower the saturation and to add dust or mud in the tone of the terrain, so that the animal merges with the scene and does not read as a foreign body. Finish the ground around it with flock and pigment only after it is settled. Matte varnish at the end will even the surface out with the rest of the base.
