About product

DKM Type VII-A U-Boat (1:350, Hobby Boss)

Injection-molded plastic kit of the German ocean-going Type VII-A submarine in 1:350 scale from Hobby Boss. The VII-A version represents the first generation of the famous Type VII family, recognizable among other things by the external stern torpedo tube and the characteristic shape of the stern. The model is built as a full hull and usually comes with a display base and decals. Check the exact contents of the box against the manufacturer's part number for this item.

The real subject

The Type VII was the most numerous and best-known German submarine of the Second World War and formed the backbone of the submarine fleet in the Battle of the Atlantic. It was a medium-sized diesel-electric attack submarine, agile on the surface and popular with its crews. The VII-A version was designed in the mid-1930s as the first configuration of the family; it had somewhat less range than the later variants and only a small number were built, followed by the more numerous VII-B and VII-C versions.

Building and painting tips

Glue the hull halves with thin cement for plastic and sand the seam on the smooth side carefully. Decide on a full-hull build on a stand or on cutting the model down to the waterline. Paint the underside with anti-fouling paint and the rest in Kriegsmarine shades of gray. Add the conning tower with its armament, the deck gun, the periscopes and the fine deck details at the end; even out the surface with a matte clear coat and pick out the free-flooding vents in the side of the hull discreetly.

Who the model is for

  • Collectors of German submarines of the Second World War
  • Anyone interested in the early version of the legendary Type VII family
  • Modelers who appreciate 1:350 scale
  • Fans of the Battle of the Atlantic

The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
