The Avro Lancaster was a British four-engined bomber with a roomy bomb bay and twin fins. The Mk.I and Mk.III versions differed mainly in where their engines came from: both used the Rolls-Royce Merlin V12 engine, and on the Mk.III it was the version built under license in the United States. That is why a single engine set covers both versions, because in shape it is the same powerplant in a practically identical nacelle. Another characteristic feature is the row of exhausts running along the side of the engine, which catches the eye on a model at once.
The parts may be resin or plastic, so match the procedure to the material of the parts in the package. Wash resin castings in lukewarm soapy water, cut the casting blocks off with a fine saw and level the surface with a file; sand wet and with respiratory protection. Resin is glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue), plastic with ordinary modeling cement. If you want to leave the engine exposed, expect to work on the cowling of the base kit, which has to be split or thinned down. Spray the engine in metallic shades, put a dark wash into the recesses and bring the edges out with a dry brush. The exhausts look best with a dark cast and a fine rust shade applied dry.
