A photo-etched set for the exterior of a model of the B-17F Flying Fortress bomber in 1:72 scale. Thin metal parts where plastic would come out too thick.
Responsibility details are not available.
The B-17F Flying Fortress is an American four-engine heavy bomber of the Second World War, used on daylight raids in tight formations. You can recognize the F version by the one-piece glazed nose without cross framing, which replaced the earlier divided glazing. Its strong defensive armament gave the type the nickname Flying Fortress and at the same time made its exterior a demanding subject for modelers, because there is a great deal of small detail on view.
Photo-etched parts for the exterior of a B-17F model in 1:72 scale. Photo-etch is thin sheet metal in which the shapes are created by chemically eating into the material. It comes into its own wherever a part is to be truly thin to scale and would come out several times thicker in plastic than reality allows. The extent of the set and the recommended order of the steps are given in the manufacturer's instructions.
Separate the parts from the fret with a sharp blade on a hard surface, not with scissors; scissors ripple the edge and you will never get it flat again. Use a bending tool for the bends, or at least two blades, so that the bend is a sharp line along its whole length. Glue with cyanoacrylate glue, and with a really small quantity applied with the tip of a wire. Degrease the metal parts before painting and spray them with a primer for metal, otherwise the coat will chip off during handling.
For modelers who build the B-17F in 1:72 scale and want to take the detail of the exterior beyond the kit. Working with photo-etch calls for calm and tweezers with a fine point, but the result is visible at first glance. This is an accessory to a kit you already have; prepare paints and glue separately, unless stated otherwise.
