Decals 1:72 for two Flying Fortresses of different series. The earlier is the machine 42-3073 of the 401st Bomb Squadron of the 91st Group, the later the aircraft 42-97400 of the 708th Squadron of the 447th Group. The sheet thus joins the late guise of the F series with a typical Fortress of the G series.
Responsibility details are not available.
The move from version F to version G changed the silhouette of the Flying Fortress more than any other modification: a remotely operated gun position was added under the nose, and with it disappeared the weakness that the opponent's fighters systematically exploited. This sheet makes it possible to build both guises, because it contains markings for the late F series and for the production G series alike.
The first machine is the aircraft with the serial number 42-3073 and a name referring to a stroke of lightning. It served with the 401st Bomb Squadron of the 91st Group, that is, with the most photographed formation of the Eighth Air Force of all. The second subject, the machine 42-97400 of the 708th Squadron of the 447th Bomb Group, carried a nickname sounding like a period quip about a boring fellow and belongs among those machines whose name held on after the war as well.
The sheet is intended for any 1:72 kit of the matching series; there are no plastic parts in it. The markings are printed so that they stay legible even over pronounced camouflage shades. Look over the last tiny pieces of lettering against the light before clear coating, as they are easily missed on a dark surface.
