1:72 B-25C/D Mitchell double-sided for Airfix

Art Scale 1:72 B-25C/D Mitchell - double-sided mask set

A set of self-adhesive masks for a model of the North American B-25C/D Mitchell medium bomber in 1:72 scale. The word double-sided in the name says that the set allows for masking the glazing from both sides, outside and inside. The frames of the glazing therefore stay clean even when seen through the cockpit, and the interior can be sprayed with no risk of paint reaching the clear parts. The package contains masks only, no plastic parts of the model. The set is designed for the Airfix kit.

What the set is for

The glazing of the Mitchell is highly complex: the glazed nose, the pilot's cockpit, the side windows and the gun positions. Masking that many frames with tape by hand is slow and rarely accurate. The pre-cut masks peel off the backing sheet, go onto the glass and follow the shape of the frames, so the paint edge comes out crisp. Check the exact extent of the set, that is whether it covers the wheels or other areas besides the glazing, against the package contents.

Usage tips

Degrease the clear parts before masking and let them dry completely. Press the mask down with a soft tool all around so that no paint seeps under the edge; a toothpick or a brush with the bristles cut off works well. Spray in thin coats: a heavy application creates a step at the edge. Lift the mask while the paint has only just dried, pulling it back over itself at an angle rather than straight up. Test the compatibility of the mask adhesive with your paint beforehand in an inconspicuous place.

Who the set is for

• Modelers building the Mitchell in 1:72 scale who want clean glazing frames.
• Those who mask the inner side of the glazing too and want to save time.
• Builders for whom cutting masking tape by hand does not give an accurate enough result.
• Modelers spraying the cockpit with an airbrush who need a crisp paint edge.

This is not a kit. The set contains masks only: the model, paints and glue are not included in the package. Before buying, check that the set matches your particular B-25C/D kit in 1:72 scale.
