This set from the Czech maker Brengun replaces the main landing gear wheels on a model of the four-engine B-17G Flying Fortress bomber in 1:72 scale. It is a targeted accessory to a kit you already have; the model itself is not included.
On a large bomber the landing gear carries considerable weight and the tires are conspicuous on a model simply because of their size. A plastic wheel, though, is made in a two-part mold, so a parting plane runs across the middle of the tread and has to be laboriously sanded away, taking the pattern with it. A resin casting is poured differently, so the tread and the hub stay whole and sharp. Replacing the wheels is therefore one of the few modifications where a small outlay and half an hour of work noticeably lift the impression a finished model makes, without your having to touch the structure.
First wash the parts in lukewarm water with a drop of dish soap to remove the mold release agent. Cut the casting block off with a fine-toothed saw and sand the remainder wet; do not inhale resin sanding dust. Bond the wheels with super glue, as cement for plastic kits does not dissolve resin. Before gluing, try the wheel on the landing gear leg and check that the model stands level and that both main wheels rest on the board. Apply a thin primer before painting. Do not spray the tire pure black; a dark gray tone with a hint of brown reads better. Paint the hub separately and soil it lightly with dust, which on large aircraft settled mainly around the hub.
The accessory is supplied unpainted. Glue, paints and the base model are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
