An injection-molded plastic kit of the Soviet Beriev Be-12 amphibian aircraft in the Be-12PS search and rescue version in 1:72 scale from the Ukrainian company Modelsvit. It is a large short-run kit; according to the manufacturer it also contains masks for the numerous oval windows of the fuselage, which makes covering them easier. The model is to be built and painted.
The Be-12 (nicknamed the Chayka) was a Soviet amphibian aircraft with turboprop engines and a characteristic gull wing. The Be-12PS version came about by modifying a production machine for search and rescue at sea: the armament was removed and rescue and medical equipment was added, including a further cargo hatch. The aircraft could take several rescued people on board.
With a large short-run kit it pays off to dry-fit the assembly and to fit the fuselage carefully. Use the supplied masks on the numerous windows. Apply a primer before painting, lay the shades on with an airbrush and fill and sand the fuselage joints thoroughly.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
