A photo-etched accessory set for a model of the Blohm und Voss BV 222 flying boat in 1:72 scale. Thin metal replaces the places where plastic is inevitably thicker.
Responsibility details are not available.
The BV 222 Wiking was a giant among the flying boats of the Second World War. The six-engined machine with a boat hull and floats under the wing carried cargo and troops over long routes and landed on water, so the structure had to take the waves as well as the flight. In 1:72 scale it makes a substantial model, and with the size grows how much the thickness of the plastic parts can be seen on it.
This is a photo-etched accessory set for the BV 222 model in 1:72 scale. Photo-etch is a thin metal sheet with the parts etched into the required shape. The thickness matches the sheet metal of the real subject far better than a plastic part, which is why photo-etch is used in places where plastic would look coarse.
Separate the parts on a hard surface with a sharp blade, not by tearing them out, otherwise they bend right at the start. Level the remains of the tab with a fine file. Make the bends in a bending tool or at least between two razor blades, so the edge is straight along its whole length. Metal is glued with cyanoacrylate glue; plastic cement does not hold on it. Before painting, wash and degrease the parts, otherwise the paint will not key to the smooth surface, and use a primer suitable for metal. Work with fine-tipped tweezers and over a tray from which a small part cannot escape to the floor.
For modelers who are building the BV 222 in 1:72 scale and want to add fine metal parts to the model. Check which kit the set is cut for in the manufacturer's instructions. The set is an accessory to a kit; paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
