1:72 Bombardier Learjet 55 is a short-run plastic kit of the twin-engine business jet with its characteristic winglets, from the manufacturer Amodel.
Responsibility details are not available.
The kit captures the Learjet 55, one of the best-known machines of its class. The model is in the short-run injection-molded plastic that Amodel uses across its whole civilian line. The molds are coarser than in large-series production, but the shapes hold to the real subject, and in 1:72 scale it is a subject that hardly any other manufacturer covers.
The Learjet 55 belongs to the family known as the Longhorn, named after the wing tipped with prominent winglets, which reduce induced drag and improve performance at altitude. Compared with the older narrow Learjets, the type 55 received a taller and roomier cabin in which it is possible to stand upright, and it was powered by two Garrett TFE731 series turbofan engines. The machine came about at Gates Learjet at the turn of the 1970s and 1980s, and the Learjet brand later passed to the Canadian Bombardier, which is also the name on the box of this model.
With this kind of plastic, dry assembly is the foundation. Check how the fuselage halves, the wing and the engine nacelles sit, and count on filling the seams. The cockpit glazing is a dominant element on business jets, so mask it carefully and spray the frame in two steps. A smooth gloss is the key: apply a filler primer, sand it back gently and spray the base color in thin coats. A gloss clear coat belongs under the decals, and once they are dry seal them with a thin coat of varnish to the degree of gloss you want. Keep the weathering to a minimum, as the machines of private operators in service tend to be kept clean.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
