Laced mountain footwear of the German mountain troops (Gebirgsjäger) in 1:72 scale is an accessory for figures. It replaces ordinary footwear on figures in mountain dress.

An accessory for figures in 1:72 scale, not a figure on its own and not a kit. The set captures the laced mountain footwear worn by the German mountain troops. It serves to exchange the footwear on figures that the manufacturer supplies in ordinary infantry dress, while the scene places them in a mountain or winter setting.
Mountain footwear differs from a tall boot at first glance. It is an ankle-high leather boot with lacing along the whole length of the instep and with a robust sole, which with the mountain troops was adapted to movement in rock and in snow. It was worn with puttees or with short gaiters, which covered the transition between the boot and the trousers, so the silhouette of the leg on a mountain soldier is markedly different from that of an infantryman in tall boots. This difference is clearly apparent in 1:72 scale and with carefully built dioramas it is looked at.
Cut the original footwear on the figure off with a scalpel or a fine saw at the place where the new part follows on, and level the mating surface with a file. Try the part dry, check that the figure stands straight once glued on, and only then bond the joint with super glue. The transition between the trouser leg and the boot is well dealt with by a thin layer of two-part filler, in which a puttee can also be suggested with a wooden stick. Spray the whole with a primer before painting. In this scale leather is built up from a medium brown base layer, a dark wash into the lacing and a light dry brush on the toe and the edges of the sole.
The accessory is supplied unpainted. Glue, paints and the figure itself are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
