A masking set of kabuki paper for the model of the Lockheed C-130H in 1:72 scale from the Czech maker New Ware. The package does not contain a model; it is an accessory intended for painting. The Expert release is the most complete of the trio Basic, Advanced and Expert, that is, the variant for a modeler who wants the masking solved by pre-cut stencils in the widest possible extent. The specific list of masked areas is given in the instructions with the set.
The most extensive set makes sense where a model does not stop at a simple coat. A transport aircraft has extensive surfaces on which several shades are combined, and on top of that glazing which is masked from both sides, so that the frame is visible from inside the cockpit as well. The more individual masks are prepared in advance, the less improvisation during painting and the smaller the risk that one badly cut strip of tape will show on the final paint. It is not a luxury but a matter of time: cutting dozens of small shapes by hand takes longer than the spraying itself.
Plan the order of painting in advance. The usual procedure is from the bottom upward and from the lighter shades to the darker ones, because a dark color covers a light one more easily. Stick down the masks that are to stay on the model longer first, and do not forget that the paper holds more firmly on paint after a longer time, so do not put off removing it for whole days. Have a knife with a new blade at hand even so, as sometimes you need to cut the edge of a mask exactly where it meets the parting line of a part. Store the sheet flat, in the cool and out of direct sunlight; paper masks harden in time and come off the backing film less easily.
This is a masking set, not a kit. The model, paints and glue are not included in the package.
