A plastic kit of the Cessna C-180 in 1:72 scale from Kovozavody Prostejov. The name of the edition refers to special color markings, that is, to schemes laid out more strikingly than those carried by ordinary production aircraft.

The real subject

The Cessna 180 is a single-engine all-metal high-wing monoplane with a fixed tailwheel landing gear. It is powered by an air-cooled flat six, the Continental O-470. The type was built in many series from the mid-1950s and became one of the standard utility aircraft in its class.

Where it is flown

A powerful engine and a rugged landing gear made the type a natural for operating from short grass and unpaved strips. Cessna 180s serve with flying clubs, in civil transport and as liaison and supply machines, and it is with private operators that the bold color schemes arise by which individual aircraft are told apart.

Building and painting tips

Build the model in the usual way: cut the parts off, clean them up and join them with a thin polystyrene cement. With bold color schemes it pays to work carefully on the base: spray a primer and then a white or light covering coat on which the colored stripes will stand out. Mask the cockpit glazing before spraying. Give the surface a gloss coat before applying the decals and, once dry, even the sheen out with a final flat or semi-gloss coat to match the subject.
