A plastic model of the Soviet fast tank in the variant described as chemical and flame-throwing, in 1:72 scale from the manufacturer UM. It is based on the BT-5 type, on which chemical and flame-throwing equipment was installed in place of the standard armament. Among equipment, 1:72 scale is one of the smaller ones, so the model consists of fine parts and will reward careful work.
The BT series was a Soviet family of fast wheel-cum-track tanks of the nineteen thirties. It was based on the chassis of the American designer Walter Christie: long suspension units with large road wheels allowed running on tracks and, once they had been taken off, directly on the wheels. The BT-5 had a welded hull, a rotating turret and a modified aircraft gasoline engine, thanks to which it ranked in its day among the fastest types in its category. The chemical HBT-5 variant was built on the same chassis and differed mainly in the equipment fitted in place of the usual armament.
Separate the small parts from the sprues with a sharp knife, not with pliers, and level the mating surfaces with a file. Assemble the running gear and check that it is in line before you close the hull up. For small models a primer laid on in a thin coat is what suits, otherwise the fine engraved detail is quickly lost. A darker wash into the seams and a light lightening of the horizontal surfaces will help to bring it out. Use pigments sparingly; in this scale a heavy coat looks unnatural.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
