Delta Dart F-106 in 1:72 - masking for the landing gear bays, Meng helps keep the inner color of the bays out of reach of the external coat.
Responsibility details are not available.
The set belongs to the paint booth rather than to the workbench. It is laid onto a finished airframe and keeps the interior of the landing gear bays away from the paint that goes on the outside. The shapes match the Meng kit, while other kits of the same aircraft need a differently cut set.
The cockpit of the Delta Dart went through a marked change during its service. The original canopy with solid frames restricted the view so much that it was later replaced by a version with clear side panels, which pilots named after a revolver. The fuselage weapons bay held air-to-air missiles and, beside them, a launcher with a nuclear warhead whose effect was meant to take out a whole formation at once. The type also comes with the story of a machine that its pilot left after losing control, whereupon the aircraft righted itself and settled almost undamaged on a snowy field; after repairs it returned to service and stands in a museum to this day.
Leave pigments, shadows and grime in the landing gear bays until the masks are off. Dry pigment gets under the edge easily and would smear the transition you fought for with careful paint application. Wait with the matte coat over the whole airframe as well.
