A refueling pod D-704 in the late form, 1:72 scale: the name gives the period from the nineteen eighties to the two thousands.
Responsibility details are not available.
A version of the device for passing fuel between aircraft, which the name places in the younger period of service. For a modeler the difference between older and newer pieces is essential: they differ in small things on the casing, in the solution of the end fitting and above all in which aircraft versions and finishes they suit.
Machines of the nineteen eighties and machines of the two thousands differ in camouflage, in warning markings and in the degree of wear. When you attach a pod in the older form to a model of the later period, the eye of an experienced collector catches the difference, even if it cannot name it straight away. Choosing the right variant is therefore not fussiness but the cheapest way to give a finished arrangement a consistent character.
Slender bodies of this kind are best painted separately and attached only at the very end, when the aircraft is already varnished. Try beforehand how the pod seats to the pylon, and level any overhang with a file. A smooth glossy surface needs a good primer, otherwise the coat will rub off at a touch. Apply the markings and warning stripes onto a gloss intermediate coat; a matte final varnish then unifies the whole. Do the wash around the joints sparingly, and the outlines will stay legible.
The package is formed by the pod alone; the aircraft you add to it according to your own choice.
