Dead Design 1:72 masks for the unoutlined national insignia of the Aichi D3A1 dive bomber match the markings of the first months of the war.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Dead Design set serves for spraying the hinomaru onto a model of the carrier dive bomber Aichi D3A1, 1:72 scale. This is the variant without a white outline, that is, the form of the insignia the machines carried in the first months of the war in the Pacific, when on the lighter finish they managed without a separating ring.
The D3A was the first Japanese carrier dive bomber of all-metal construction. Its recognition marks remained the fixed, spatted landing gear leg and the elliptical wing with folding dive brakes. The D3A1 version took part in the attack on the Hawaiian Islands and in the raid into the Indian Ocean, and its crews were at first among the best trained in the world. The hit rate against shipping targets was exceptionally high, but the losses of experienced crews at Midway marked the type permanently.
A plain red disc without an outline looks like an easy task, yet it is exactly there that every uneven edge shows. Smooth the base with a fine abrasive pad, therefore, and degrease it. On a lighter finish the red will do with a white preparation in a thin coat only. Spray at low pressure and rather more than once: there is no border to deal with here, so all the attention belongs to even coverage inside the circle.
