A masking set from MH models intended to cover the cockpit glazing on a model of the French and German Alpha Jet in 1:72 scale. The masks are stuck onto the clear part, which is then sprayed over with the color of the frames, and the masks are taken off; the frames thus come out exactly along the engraved lines and without laborious outlining by brush. It is not a kit but an accessory to a model.
The Alpha Jet is a two-seat jet aircraft that came out of a joint French and German program by Dassault and Dornier. It first flew in the first half of the 1970s and serves in two main roles: as an advanced trainer and as a light attack aircraft. It has a high-wing layout with a swept wing, two jet engines on the sides of the fuselage and a tandem two-seat cockpit with markedly overhanging glazing. Besides its countries of origin it has flown and still flies with a number of further operators, including aerobatic teams.
Work through the panes of glazing one by one. Lift the piece carefully out of the sheet with the tip of a scalpel, offer it up to the clear part and press it into the engraved edges of the frame with the tip of a toothpick or the blunt side of a knife, so that no air is left under the edge. Cover the remaining glazed areas and the inside of the cockpit with a piece of masking tape. Spray in two steps - the shade of the interior of the frames first, and once that is dry the color of the external finish. Apply the coats thinly, so that no noticeable step appears on the edge of the mask. On a tandem cockpit with a large canopy it pays to go over the clear part with polishing compound before masking and to finish with a thin layer of clear varnish. Remove the mask with tweezers shortly after the paint has dried.
This is not a model of the aircraft and not a kit. Paints, varnish and the base model are not included in the package.
