1:72 Dornier Do-27/ CASA C-127 canopy airbrush mask for Special Hobby

Glazing masking set for the Dornier Do 27 and CASA C-127, 1:72

This set from MH models is not a kit but an aid for a build: pre-cut masks for the glazing of a Do 27 model in 1:72 scale. Instead of laboriously cutting strips of masking tape, you apply finished shapes and simply spray over them. The target kit is Special Hobby.

The real subject

The Do 27 is a single-engine high-wing monoplane with fixed landing gear and short takeoff and landing characteristics, used for liaison, observation and general-purpose duties. A license variant was built in Spain under the designation C-127. The cabin has large areas of glazing including the side windows, so the frames form a prominent part of the look of a model.

What the masks give you

The frames come out of equal width along their whole length, the edges stay sharp and the clear parts are protected throughout the build from being fogged by paint and from fingerprints. On a high-wing monoplane with that proportion of glazing it is a difference that affects the final impression more than most additional details.

A procedure that has proved itself

First wash the clear parts in lukewarm soapy water and let them dry. Transfer the masks with tweezers and press them down along the whole length of the edge. Spray the interior shade of the frames first and only then the external color. Take the masks off only once the paint has dried and repair any run with a fine brush. If you are finishing the model in matte, it is better to cover the glazing again before varnishing.

Who the set is for

• builders of civil and liaison types in 1:72
• modelers who want accurate frames without cutting by hand
• models with a large proportion of cabin glazing
• builders from an intermediate level of experience upward

The masks are cut for a particular kit in 1:72 scale, so please check the match with the model you are building before you buy. Paints and varnishes are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
