What is unusual about this sheet is that it is devoted not to the type in general but to the history of a single machine, which in British service carries the serial number ZA947. A modeler can therefore build the same aircraft in its form from various periods of its service. The package contains decals only.
The Douglas C-47, in British nomenclature the Dakota, is a twin-engined military transport aircraft derived from the civil DC-3 type. It is marked by a fixed tailwheel undercarriage, a roomy fuselage with cargo doors and exceptional longevity. A number of airframes stayed in flying condition for decades after the end of ordinary military service, which over the years brought them several different finishes and markings. It is exactly this change in one machine that the sheet charts.
The Dakota has a long smooth fuselage and large lifting surfaces, so sizeable decals go onto it, for example bands and large-area lettering. With large areas, do not lay the decal down all at once. Slide it off the paper by one edge, hold it and feed the rest in gradually, so that no air gets under the film. Then press the excess water and the bubbles out with a cotton swab from the center toward the edges and finally blot them away with a soft cloth. With large-format motifs, haste comes back in the form of creases that can no longer be straightened.
