Stencils for the landing gear bays of the Thunderchief in the D and G versions, 1:72 scale. They are based on the shape of the parts of the Trumpeter kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
The aid allows for an F-105D and F-105G Thunderchief model from the Trumpeter kit. Both versions share the same arrangement of the landing gear, so one sheet serves the single-seat and the special form alike.
While the single-seat version was built for a fast strike at low altitude, the letter G denotes a machine with an entirely different mission. After experience with the dense network of anti-aircraft missiles over the north of Vietnam, a specialization arose in finding and destroying the radars that guided the missiles. The aircraft received sensitive receivers for locating transmissions and anti-radiation missiles, with which it could hit a site before it managed to fire. The crews of this role earned the reputation of the most dangerous trade in the air.
Newer molds tend to have accurate edges to the openings, so a light pass with a polisher and degreasing are enough. Spray from the center outward and rather in two passes; a dense application would spread under the edge. Before removal, let the paint set but not cure completely; the edge then does not peel. Any remaining irregularities are evened out by a fine polish.
