The F-14A is a two-seat carrier fighter aircraft of the US Navy with a variable-sweep wing. On takeoff and landing the wing is spread out for the sake of the low speed over the deck, and in fast flight it folds back toward the fuselage. A weapon systems operator sits beside the pilot, because working the radar and the guided missiles when intercepting air targets is a job for two heads. The nickname Black Aces belongs to the Navy fighter squadron known under the designation VF-41, which flew Tomcats from the aircraft carrier USS Nimitz.
This is a decal sheet in 1:72 scale, not parts for a model. It brings the markings of the machines of that squadron, so an ordinary F-14A kit will build a particular aircraft. How many marking variants the sheet holds and whether it also carries technical lettering are given in the maker's description and instructions.
Before you soak the sheet, check in the instructions whether it is a self-adhesive version; a self-adhesive film that has been soaked is ruined. Sheets of this kind are ordinarily worked by the wet method. First unify the surface with a gloss varnish, because on a matte surface air stays under the film and the decal turns white. Dip the motif you have cut out into water for a moment and let it rest until the film starts to slide freely over the backing. Carry it to the place, straighten its position and press the excess water out with a soft stick or a cotton swab from the middle toward the edges. Across rivets and panel lines you will settle the decal with a softener. Once it has dried, go over the whole model with a varnish, which will hide the edges of the film and protect the markings.
A model of the aircraft, paints, varnishes and a softener are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
