The desert camouflage of the Israeli F-16s

The Sufa version is a two-seat machine derived from Block 52; you recognize it by the bulky dorsal equipment fairing and by the conformal tanks attached to the sides of the fuselage. Older two-seat machines of the same armament carry the name Barak and lack the dorsal hump. Both lines share a three-shade desert camouflage whose fields run from the nose across the wings all the way to the engine nacelle.

The sheet covers the drawing of the camouflage for both of the versions mentioned and adds stencils for the national insignia, so the stars do not have to be stuck on from decals onto rounded surfaces, where they usually wrinkle. The cut allows for the pattern breaking differently at the conformal tank than on a smooth side.

Working with a multicolor pattern

Apply the shades step by step and let the paint rest at least a day between the individual fields, otherwise the vinyl will pull the soft layer underneath off when removed. Stick the star stencils on only onto finished camouflage and dose the paint into them really sparingly, so that the edge stays legible.

Two-seat machines in a desert environment

The rear seat here does not serve training alone. The second crew member works the equipment for operating against ground targets, the aircraft is used in the strike role, and that shows in the stores it carries under the wings. The build therefore looks more faithful when the stores are matched to the period the finish belongs to as well. Light desert shades also look different in every photograph, because they react strongly to the time of day, and it is sensible to choose one photograph as the binding reference.
