A resin detail set of landing gear bays in 1:72 scale from the Czech maker Aires. It is not a kit but an accessory that replaces the simple plastic bays with a faithful replica full of lines, stiffeners and hydraulics. The set is meant to be built into a matching plastic Hornet model.
The McDonnell Douglas F/A-18 Hornet is a multirole carrier aircraft able to fly both fighter and attack missions. The A version is single-seat, the C version a modernized single-seater and the D version a two-seater. On carrier aircraft the landing gear bays are among the exposed places, because they are often visible on a model with the gear extended, and rendering them in detail raises the realism of a build markedly.
Wash the parts to remove mold release residue, cut off the casting blocks and bond them with super glue. It is best to spray the bays with a base color first, then pick them out with wash paints and go over them with a dry brush. Try the fit dry, because resin inserts sometimes call for small changes to the surrounding plastic.
This is a resin detail accessory, not a complete model. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
