An injection-molded plastic kit of the German FAMO Sd.Kfz. 9 heavy half-track tractor with a capacity of 18 tons, in 1:72 scale from Trumpeter. The model is one of the more detailed renderings of this subject in the given scale; the front wheels are supplied in rubber and the tracks of the running gear are of the flexible (vinyl) type. A decal sheet is included.
The FAMO Sd.Kfz. 9 was the largest and most powerful German half-track tractor of the Second World War. It served mainly to tow and recover heavy equipment, including damaged tanks, and to carry heavy loads. It was powered by a massive Maybach gasoline engine, and thanks to its great tractive effort it was indispensable to engineer and recovery units. It was often used in pairs, so as to be able to tow even the heaviest damaged vehicles off the battlefield.
First assemble the running gear and the engine section, and only then finish the hull and the load bed. The open driver's cab and body offer room for detailing. Use thin cement, a primer and an airbrush; the weathering will come from dark washes and pigments for heavy mud and dust effects, which suit a working vehicle.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
