An injection-molded plastic kit of the German Focke-Wulf Fw 190A-4 fighter aircraft in 1:72 scale from Zvezda. The model is designed as a snap-fit kit with a small number of parts that can be assembled without glue, yet the result looks convincing and it offers markings for two different Luftwaffe machines. For firmer and cleaner joints it is still better to glue the parts.
The Fw 190 was one of the best German fighters of the Second World War. The A-4 version of 1942 to 1943 was powered by an air-cooled BMW 801 radial engine and, compared with the previous batch, it brought among other things modified equipment and a mounting point for additional equipment on the rear fuselage. The Fw 190 stood out for its robust design, heavy armament and good agility at low and medium altitude, and it was deployed on the Western and the Eastern Front alike.
Even a snap-fit kit is improved by the basic modeling routine: clean up the mold seams, remove the flash from the parts and lay down a primer before painting. The paints go on best with an airbrush, and the broken masking of the upper surfaces with mottling on the fuselage is typical. Apply the decals over a gloss coat and knock the whole thing back at the end. Given the smaller number of parts it is a quick and rewarding project.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
