The 1:72 German F-104 WTD 61 98/04 Last Flight decal set from the manufacturer Model Maker is meant for marking a model of the German Starfighter of the WTD 61 test establishment.
Responsibility details are not available.
A Model Maker decal sheet in 1:72 scale. It relates to an F-104 machine operated by the German test establishment WTD 61 and to the markings connected with its last flight. The set is an accessory for a model and does not hold a kit; check its make-up against the illustration on the packaging.
The F-104 Starfighter is a single-engined supersonic aircraft with a very thin and short wing, which gave it its characteristic silhouette. In German service it served for decades in several roles, and some of the machines ended their careers in test flying, where they were used for measurement and verification sorties. WTD 61 is a German technical establishment aimed precisely at test flying, so its machines often carried striking markings different from those of combat units. The last flight of a long-serving type tends to be an occasion for commemorative markings on a machine.
The Starfighter has smooth areas with a minimum of surface detail, so mistakes in preparing the surface readily give themselves away on it. Polish the finish before the decals, therefore, and spray gloss varnish over it. Seat small commemorative markings with tweezers and ease them over with a damp brush; with legends along the fuselage, help yourself with a line marked lightly in pencil, which the varnish will then cover. Once they are dry, use a softener only where a decal crosses an engraved line. A matte or semi-gloss overcoat evens the surface out and hides the edges of the carrier film.
The package holds decals, not a model. The paints, the varnish and decal chemicals are not part of it.
