1:72 German Motorized Armored Car Panzertriebwagen No 17 is a plastic kit of a German armored motor railcar in 1:72 scale from UM.
Responsibility details are not available.
The UM kit covers a piece of equipment you will not meet often among models: an armored car that runs on rails and is driven by an engine of its own. The number 17 in the name refers to a particular vehicle from a small German batch. The model is built from injection-molded plastic and invites a section of track as a finishing touch, because on rails it looks quite different from a bare base.
Armored motor railcars belonged to German railway equipment of the Second World War. Against a classic armored train, which a locomotive pulled and which was made up of many cars, a motor railcar was an independent unit with its own drive, able to set out quickly and without preparation. They were used mainly to protect lines, to escort transports and for actions against armed groups in the rear areas in the east. Only a few were built in series, so each piece had its own particular features.
Finish and test the running gear and the axles before the body is closed up, otherwise the wheel spacing will not settle on the track. The flat areas of the armored body are rewarding for a smooth transition between camouflage tones, but spray the transitions with heavily thinned paint and in small doses. Lay rust on the wheels and the lower body with pigments, and bring out the greasy dirt around the doors and the steps with a dark wash. Add the wooden ties of the base at the end.
It is supplied as an unpainted kit without glue and paints, unless stated otherwise.
