This is not a model of equipment but an accessory for a diorama. It is a resin casting of a German military tent of the Second World War period, listed by the manufacturer as the large staff tent Grosse Stabszelt, in 1:72 scale. It is supplied unpainted; paints and glue are not included in the package. The casting has the tensioned canvas with its folds, the guy lines and the entrance modeled in, so once it is painted it comes across as a real field structure rather than a geometric block.
Staff tents formed the support of command posts in the field. They served as an office with a map table, a signals workplace or a place for conferences, and they were therefore larger and better laid out than ordinary shelters for the men. The construction stayed simple and portable: canvas panels tensioned over center poles, guyed with lines and pegged down. A post was usually set up out of direct view, often at the edge of a wood or behind a building, with vehicles parked nearby. On a diorama the tent therefore ties the model of equipment naturally to its surroundings and explains why the vehicle is standing in that scene.
Wash the part in lukewarm soapy water, cut the casting block off with a saw and level the underside with sanding paper so that the tent does not rock on its base; wear respiratory protection while sanding resin. It is bonded with super glue (cyanoacrylate). Begin painting with a primer and the base shade of the canvas, then add a lighter dry brush on the ridges of the folds and a dark wash into their depths. Slightly uneven shading of the large surfaces helps the result, as canvas in the field never has a uniform color. Dust the hem at ground level with pigments and fill out the surroundings with static grass, worn soil and small clutter.
