Responsibility details are not available.
A set of figures of soft plastic in 1:72 scale from the manufacturer Strelets-R. This is a mounted set, so besides the figures of the riders it contains horses as well. As with the other sets of this brand the figures are supplied unpainted, in the color of the plastic, and are intended for finishing dioramas, display case scenes or players' armies in a small scale.
Uhlan is the designation for a light mounted lancer, whose recognition marks were a long lance and a characteristic headdress with a squared top. The German army still had lancer regiments in its order of battle at the beginning of the First World War and committed them mainly to reconnaissance, covering the flanks and liaison service. The static character of the Western Front, however, quickly pushed cavalry out of the main role and its significance shifted to the east, where room for movement remained. The appearance shifted during the war from pronounced peacetime colors to muted field shades.
With mounted sets the painting of the horses is the key, because it is precisely that which decides whether a scene looks alive. It pays to mix several shades of brown and one dark one for a black horse, then to brighten the base on each horse with a dry brush along the coat and to deepen the shadows with a thinned wash. Do the mane and the tail separately, usually a tone darker than the body. Set the harness and the straps apart with matte brown or black, and the metal buckles only in spots. Seat the figure of the rider in the saddle only after the basic painting of the horse, otherwise you will reach the lower part with difficulty. Soft plastic is held reliably only by cyanoacrylate and paint stays on it only after a flexible primer has been applied. Long lances tend to be bent; a brief immersion in hot water and cooling in a straight position helps to straighten them.
The figures are supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
