A figure set of soft plastic in 1:72 scale from the manufacturer Strelets-R, devoted to Germanic riders. It is an addition for dioramas from the period of antiquity, not a kit of hardware. The figures come in the color of the plastic, unglued and unpainted.
The Germanic tribes to the north and east of the Roman frontier had neither a uniform army nor uniform equipment. A rider among them was usually recruited from a better-placed layer, because a horse and better arms cost something, so the appearance differed markedly within one group: one man had a helmet and chain mail, another only a shield and a spear. The fighting was done mainly with spear and sword, with a small round or oval shield. For a modeler this variety is an advantage, because no two figures have to be painted the same.
Figures from antiquity lend themselves to being combined with other sets, mainly with Roman infantry. 1:72 scale is common with historical figures, but the real height of the characters differs between manufacturers, so before buying accessories compare one figure side by side with what you already have. A difference of a few tenths of a millimeter in height is not visible in one scene, a more pronounced mismatch is. When painting, reach for earthy and linen tones, as the natural dyes of the time did not provide a rich palette. Deepen skin and furs with a dark wash and brighten them with a dry brush. Soft plastic is glued only by cyanoacrylate and holds paint only after a flexible primer has been applied. Check the thin spears against the light; bent parts are straightened by a brief immersion in hot water.
The figures are supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
