An Eduard masking set for a model of the Grumman F-14A Tomcat in 1:72 scale. Pre-shaped masks make spraying the canopy frames faster and more accurate.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Grumman F-14A Tomcat is a two-seat carrier-based fighter of the US Navy, recognizable at first glance by its variable-sweep wings and its twin vertical tails. On a model its cockpit is long and intricate, so the glazing frames are exactly the place where it pays to use ready-made masks instead of hand-cut tape.
The set contains pre-shaped self-adhesive masking parts for the glazing of a model. The shapes match the frames of a particular kit, so all you need do is lift them off the backing, lay them in place and press them down. The set is shaped for a particular kit, and which one is given in the manufacturer's instructions.
The masks are applied to clean, degreased glazing before spraying. Press the edges down firmly with a toothpick or a blunt wooden stick, because it is exactly under an edge that has not bedded down that paint runs. Spray thinly and rather in several passes; a heavy coat builds a ridge at the edge of the mask that stays visible after it is removed. Lift the mask with the tip of a knife or with tweezers soon after the paint has dried, not days later, when the finish has hardened and may pull away from the edge. Any adhesive left on the glazing can be removed by gentle wiping. Do not throw the offcuts of the masks away immediately, because small pieces come in useful for covering places a whole part will not fit.
What is supplied is the masking set on its own. The kit, paints and glue are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
