A Grumman Hellcat FR II reconnaissance conversion in 1:72 from AML reworks the carrier fighter into a photo-reconnaissance machine of the British Fleet Air Arm.
Responsibility details are not available.
This conversion set from the Czech brand AML makes it possible to build the photo-reconnaissance form of the Hellcat carrier fighter as the British Fleet Air Arm operated it under the designation FR II. The set supplements a model in 1:72 scale - the Hellcat itself has to come from your own stock of kits.
The British Fleet Air Arm received Hellcats under Allied deliveries and used them from the Norwegian coast all the way to the Indian Ocean. The FR II form combined full fighter armament with a photographic camera in the rear fuselage - the machine could therefore take pictures of enemy positions and look after itself in a fight. Reconnaissance Hellcats are among the less known and all the more interesting chapters of carrier aviation, and at a show they reliably prompt questions from the curious.
Draw the cuts into the fuselage out in advance and cut twice - first roughly, then cleanly with the part tried in place. Keep the camera windows masked until the very end, where they come into their own. British carrier machines from the end of the war offer attractive schemes; check the appearance of the particular example against photographs of the unit you are building, including the identification stripes of the theater concerned.
