1:72 Ilyushin Il-10 — colors and markings (Mark I)

An item from the colors and markings range of the Czech brand Mark I, a decal set for 1:72 scale. It is not a kit: it is the basis for painting and marking an already built model of the Ilyushin Il-10 ground attack aircraft. The real subject

The Il-10 was a Soviet two-seat ground attack aircraft that followed on from the Il-2. Against its predecessor it had all-metal construction, an aerodynamically cleaner airframe and better flying qualities, while keeping the armored tub around the powerplant and the cockpit. It entered service at the end of the Second World War and stayed with a number of air forces long afterward. It was also built under license in Czechoslovakia under the designation Avia B-33, which makes it a rewarding subject for Czech modelers.

Tips for applying the decals

Varnish the surface with a gloss clear coat and let it cure. Cut the decal out closely, soak it briefly and let it release on paper. In 1:72 scale the motifs are small, so carry them on a damp brush and position them on a thin film of water. Where a decal crosses engraved lines or raised detail, help it with a softener and pressure from a cotton swab. Once dry, wipe the remains of the adhesive off with a damp cloth and unify the surface with a varnish, usually matte or semi-gloss on a ground attack aircraft.
