An injection-molded plastic kit in 1:72 scale from the Polish brand IBG Models. The subject is an Italian self-propelled combination, which came about by setting an anti-aircraft gun of 90 mm caliber on the chassis of a heavy truck. The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted; the number of parts and the decal schemes are given in the instructions supplied with the kit.
The basis was the Italian heavy truck of the 3Ro series, a sturdy vehicle with a diesel engine used in the Second World War to tow guns and carry loads. The Cannone da 90/53 was an anti-aircraft piece of 90 mm caliber with a long barrel; its ballistics made it usable against ground targets as well, which was the customary dual role for guns of this class. Setting the gun on the truck bed produced a mobile combination that was not armored but could change its firing position quickly. Its use concerned above all the North African and Italian theaters.
In 1:72 scale the parts are small and the most sensitive places are the barrel, the outrigger pads and the railings of the bed. It pays to work on a light surface and to cut small items off only at the moment of gluing. Assemble and paint the chassis and the bed separately from the gun section, because once they are joined you can no longer reach the underside. Check the barrel against the light to see whether it is straight and put any bend right by warming it briefly in warm water. Lay the primer on thinly, so that the fine relief does not disappear. Italian vehicles of this era are often done in a single sand shade, which at a small scale will stand marked gradation; it suits to lighten the upper surfaces and darken the places under the body. Keep the weathering fine, thin the wash more than at a large scale and lay pigments only on the wheels and the lower parts.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
