Responsibility details are not available.
A plastic kit of the modern wheeled armored personnel carrier of the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force in 1:72 scale. The designation Type A tells the version from the sister Type B configuration; the two differ above all in the armament mounted on the commander's station. The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted.
The Type 96 is an eight-wheeled armored personnel carrier introduced in the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force in the second half of the 1990s as a replacement for older tracked vehicles for carrying troops. The design is built on a wheeled chassis with all axles driven, which offers a high road transit speed and lower running costs than a tracked vehicle. The hull is a welded armored box with room for the dismount squad, an engine section at the front and rear doors for the troops. The Type A and Type B versions differ in what is mounted on the roof station – on one it is an automatic grenade launcher, on the other a heavy machine gun.
With an eight-wheeled chassis it is essential that all the wheels stand on the ground. Before the glue dries, stand the model on a flat board and let it cure under load, otherwise one wheel will hang in the air. Paint the wheels and their arches separately and fit them only after the hull is sprayed. The Japanese two-color camouflage is best sprayed at this reduction with the help of soft masks or freehand at very low pressure – the transition must not be too blurred. Finally add a dark wash in the panel seams and dust on the lower parts and the wheels.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
